There is an ongoing problem in business meetings today. Technology is thriving, and so is our eagerness to jump on its wagon. One thing I can say, messing around on your phone during a highly important business meeting could cause a lot of trouble. A recent article from Forbes, goes into depth on the situation.
There are many reasons for us to get distracted during meetings, smartphones is one of them. It has become second nature to have a peek here and there, whilst busy with a meeting. Here are a few reasons why not to do this in a business meeting:
It is RUDE - Your attention is being bestowed somewhere else.
You'll Forget - You will not fully process information given to you.
If it's boring, don't go - Do not participate in something that is not beneficial to yourself.
A meeting with ZERO ideas - If you are mentally not present, there will be little if no functionality.
Your motivation is CORRECT - You might be doing yourself a service, but meetings should not be the time.
These are among the many reasons one should not check your phone during meetings. Personally, I do not think I would risk doing something like this. It screams "unprofessional" and rude, as mentioned above.
Sincerely,
Zinny
