The book Unmarketing, written by Scott Stratten explains the perfect balance between you and your target market. See, the amazing thing about Scott's philosophy is the focus is not centered on marketing itself, but engaging. The main aim in the game of marketing is to make oneself look like an expert. Being knowledgeable in the business setting could potentially lead to continuous improvement and more customers. Customers feed off information, especially if it is coming from someone that is engaged and willing to work hands on with situations.
I must say, on a personal level, this book has taught me quite a lot about my viewpoint on marketing. Recently I decided to major in Marketing after only having an entry level marketing class, which was required for my International Business major. Dr. Hunt...Arkansas State's Dean of the Business department was the sole reason for the decision. Every class I have, I learn. It is only week one in my Marketing Management class, hence the reason for my love for unmarketing. It is brilliat! To STOP marketing and to START engaging! This idea sounds simple, but companies are struggling with the concept of engaging. Scott mentions many incidents that occur where this sort of thing often happens. Before I start blabbing on about the book, GO READ IT YOURSELF! It will be worth your while.
Sincerely,
Zinny
